HISTORY

Río Madre & Río Mazos

Although we have worked with Jorge Ordoñez since 2008, it was only in 2010 when we became more closely entwined. We started a project with Jorge Ordoñez investing strongly in the Graciano grape. This resulted in the production of two wines whose distribution in the US is exclusive to Fine Estates From Spain.

The Graciano grape has been crucial in the oenological development of La Rioja. The wineries depend on it to bring colour, floral notes to tastings and complexity in their blends. It remains uncommon to bottle it alone.

For a few years we have seen that cultivating this variety in the vicinity of Alfaro provides for optimal conditions. We are able to produce a wine that showcases the best that this variety can offer. An intense colour, exuberant aroma and tasty and delicious on the palate: this is a wine that must be enjoyed in its fullness.

Rio Madre

We started by making the Río Madre wine, a single variety using the Graciano. So, we chose those plots with the best ripening conditions.

Once the grapes are in the tank, they undergo alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature (20ºC to 25ºC) and the subsequent malolactic fermentation. This wine shows us the most jovial, tasty and fruity side of the variety, but with the contained power that characterises the Graciano.

Rio Mazos

In 2015, we decided to take things to the next level and Río Mazas was the result. This is a limited production single variety wine made from only the finest, low-yield Graciano grapes. This wine is aged in new French oak barrels from selected cooperages. This wine reveals the more subtle, delicate side of this variety, with a complex nose full of nuances. On the palate it is tasty, long and has a persistent aftertaste.
