BACKGROUND

The “Bodegas y Viñedos Ilurce” winery was founded in 1940 as a part of the Qu.D.O Rioja, located in Alfaro, in the heart of the eastern region of La Rioja.

Bodegas Ilurce is run by the fourth generation of winegrowers and we have a true treasure on our hands: over forty-five hectares of outstanding vineyards, with their tranches of old varieties, for which we give thanks to the land every day.

The ILURCE are our wines: wines that speak of the land and the passion involved; wines created to remain in our thoughts, to leave a lasting memory of the know-how of a family whose life is all about wine.

HISTORY

From 1850

We always say that the origins of Bodegas y Viñedos Ilurce lie in 1940, although in reality our history goes further back. Our ancestors have cultivated vines since time immemorial, but it was Juan Escudero, our great-grandfather, who began to produce wine in Grávalos around 1850.

Amador Escudero Abad

In 1940, Amador Escudero, our grandfather, bought the winery in Alfaro. In addition to being the family home where we grew up, this was also the place where our grandparents, parents and we worked until 2010, the year in which we decided to move to the current winery.

In terms of the vine, we are extremely lucky that both our paternal and maternal families have passed on their wine-making tradition to us, along with vineyards that are of great value to us. Our viticultural, oenological, sentimental and family values are fully reflected on our STORIED WINES.

WINERIES AND VINEYARDS

Amador Escudero Abad, our father created the ILURCE brand in 1994 and we started to market red nouveau and rosé wines. In 2000, we decided to go a step further and became part of the Rioja ageing wineries. We began to age our own wines in barrels and these started to make their way onto the market in 2003. At the dawn of the 20th century, we began to look outward and export our wines, with our beloved winery proving now too small.

In 2010, the Escudero Carra family began to produce wines in the newly constructed winery. This new facility enables us to pursue new wine tourism activities, in addition to implementing new technologies to add even greater quality to our wines – though not to the detriment of our base, the vineyards and the knowledge and experience of our ancestors that has been passed down through the generations.

ABOUT US

Currently, the winery and vineyards are run by the fourth generation of the Escudero family. With the help of our employees and the rest of the family, we three siblings apply the latest technological advances, while always upholding the traditions passed down to us.

THE NEXT GENERATION

The fifth generation can already be found around the winery. If you visit us, you will probably meet at least one of them. Víctor, María, Isabel, Vidal, Daniel and Ana are here to ensure the future of this family imbued in vineyards and wines. They already have in-depth knowledge of the wine-making process and are priming their senses to understand the product in full.
